I'm a day late for Me and My Monday, but my dad asked me this weekend why I never talk about my parents in my blog. So while I unfortunately am about earlobe-deep in homework and can't actually write anything right now, I am going to give my parents a shout out....and show off my new niece Maria at the same time. These photos are from her dedication service on Sunday. (FYI if you don't know, a baby dedication is similar to a baptism except there's no water. It's where the parents [and often the grandparents too] pledge in front of God and the congregation to raise the child up in a Christian home and to encourage him/her to choose a walk with Christ when he/she is old enough to know.)
Hi Dad!
So this is me in Turkey (well, me in so much as my hand is in the picture) holding twenty Turkish lira on which is the scene seen in the picture. I decided to post this because I am a bit sentimental about my time over there and am really missing the places and the people. Of course, loan auditing cannot really hold a candle to exploring Ephesus. But hey, life goes on which is a good thing in most cases. But I do miss being an intrepid wanderer. Loan auditor is not quite filling the void.
We have 1 of the 2 garden additions ready for plants! Today I planted the grapes & cantaloupe. We're lining the outside of the garden sections with bricks. Also in this section will be a couple pumpkin plants & several rows of corn. In the other new section will be peas, carrots, onions, brussel sprouts, red peppers, lettuce & broccoli. The garden section already existing has raspberries & strawberries, and we'll plant tomato plants later in May.
I had a little helper!
Me and my Freecycle itmes (yes, it counts that my foot is in the picture!)
When I joined freecycle I was a bit nervous because we really do not have much to give away. I mean, we do not have things to sell, let alone give away. But, I managed to find some clothes that C no longer fits in and if you have two bed trays behind a chair you probably do not need them and there's this lamp that I need to get rid of right now.
So, I listed the clothes on freecycle and had an instant taker. She was suppose to pick them up on Saturday. The clothes are still on the porch and she won't return my emails. My first no show. But, now I am hesitant to post the trays and lamps. I do not need those items to linger on my porch, too.
I had one other response to the clothes, so I guess I could see if I still have her email and let her know that the clothes were never picked up from D.
Sigh.
Time for laundry and cleaning the kiddos' room.
Happy Monday!!
I loved it.
It was modest, but what made it so special was that Rob had picked it out himself, surprising me with it the day after my 18th birthday, at which time he sang me a song (while playing his guitar), got down on one knee, and proposed.
I'd had it almost 20 years, and I was heartsick to lose it.
I'd hoped he'd have it fixed for my birthday since that marked 20 years since our engagement (shy of a day, of course). But he didn't. I was disappointed, pouted a bit, realized he was probably waiting for our cruise, then felt quite chagrined that I might have ruined his plans.
The ring and other needs-repair jewelry disappeared from our bedroom a few days later.
Last week, he gave me the three necklaces back, shiny and complete once again. I was not surprised, but quite pleased.
Then on Friday evening, we went to the mall with The Daughter's birthstone ring to have it resized. He asked the jeweler how much and when told the price, he looked at me and said, "Would you excuse me for a moment."
He knows that I get uncomfortable when he
"You aren't going to get it fixed there?"
(Despite the price going up a bit, I knew he liked that jewelry store, as he'd had his ring resized and my necklaces repaired there, so I was a bit confused.)
"Well, what do you think of this?" he said and handed me the box. I opened it up and found...
"I thought you were waiting for the cruise...?" I remarked. He told me he was, but he began to think that October was so far away and what if something happened.
He explained that he wanted me to be able to enjoy it now.
And believe me, I am!
The photos really don't begin to show how lovely it is.
I told him later that he really didn't have to "upgrade". His response?
"After 20 years with me, I figured you deserved it."
Before my interview I decided to go for a little run. When I got home I needed to stretch my left shin and cool down. While I was squatting I decided to boot-up my laptop. Since it is old, it needs a little bit of time, so I picked up my knitting. If you give a mouse a cookie....
